Synopsis and Discussion
AQI levels remain in the MODERATE range, Tuesday, under sunny skies, low humidity, and warm temperatures. A cold front will approach the state, Wednesday. Ahead of the front, clouds and showers will spread across the Triad, especially during the afternoon and evening. The unsettled conditions will drop ozone back to code GREEN. Particle pollution will be slower to decrease but should drop back to upper code GREEN by the end of the day as heavier showers and storms sweep across the region. Clouds and showers will linger into Thursday, as well, helping to keep the AQI code GREEN, another day. Sunny skies will return, Friday, behind the departing system, along with a clean, code GREEN air mass (GENTRY). *** A ban on all open burning remains in effect for 19 counties (Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes and Union) within the N.C. Forest Service's jurisdiction due to increased wildfire risk from the current severe to extreme drought conditions and has canceled all burning permits for these counties until further notice.
